Diving in Burma and Malaysia
October 2002 and January and April 2003

Home

In late January 2003 i participated in a liveaboard dive trip in Burmese waters. Diving is hardly a big industry in Burma so the tour started from Ranong on the West Coast of Thailand. The diving is good (manta ray, shark, my FIRST seahorse!, shrimp, nudibranch etc.) BUT distances between dive sites are long and the Burmese authorities wants USD 120 for a 5 day trip. (99 photos)

Burma

Just before the monsoon started at the end of October 2002 I dived at Perhentian at the north eastern corner of peninsular Malaysia. Beautiful hard corals, turtles, small sharks and rays on every dive convinced me that I had to go back. So I returned at the beginning of the next season in early April 2003. I stayed on Long Beach at Perhentian Kecil - a fantastic beach, but if you want to go you better hurry! The island is about to be developed :-(
I started diving with Stephen Sea Sport in Coral Bay, and they are really good, but too far away from Long Beach... So I dived with Bubu Divers instead and they're also quite OK. (147 photos)
